Our proposal draws on the historical stratigraphy of the square, adopting a radically conservative strategy that reintroduces the former grid as an organizing principle for reuniting the fragmented urban fabric. Green vestibules extend this structure into the wider city, providing shade, spatial coherence, and a renewed civic character while generating a sequence of differentiated green spaces. Water plays an integral role in the design, expressed through nature-based swales and ponds within vegetated zones, complemented by wet squares in the central meadow and along the Danube’s edge. Together, these interventions articulate a resilient public realm that mediates between ecological processes, historical continuity, and contemporary urban life.
